Locus-of-Control

Rotter (1966) described a Locus-of-Control Scale that indicated beliefs related to internal versus external sources of control over events. This led to a number of studies on individual differences in career development and occupational choice on the locus-of-control (LOC) dimension; particular emphasis has been placed on the relations between LOC and career decision making styles. For example, Broley (1986, cited in Folsom & Rearson, 2003, p. 435) reported that students who completed a career planning course had greater increases in internality of LOC related to career decision making compared to those who did not take the course.
