Dual-Career Marriage

Both spouses pursue a career through paid work, generally through at least professional or managerial level occupations. From the 1970s through at least the early 1990s this was a major focus in vocational psychological research. Initially the focus on the adjustment of women to the demands of pursuing a career, but subsequent research also investigated the adjustment of men to the demands of such marriages. Probably the core issue in such research has been how couples resolve issues of allocation of time to relationship, parenting, and maintenance roles as well as work roles.
