Associative learning experiences An important construct in Mitchell and Krumboltz's (1996) learning theory of career choice and counseling, associative learning experiences involve the association of a previously affectively neutral stimulus or event with one laden with affect. Associative learning experiences may arise from either vicarious (indirect) experience or direct experience. Contrasted with instrumental learning experiences.
