Career Aspiration

Referenced across several theories, this construct is particularly important in Gottfredson's (1996) theory of circumscription and compromise, in which realistic aspirations refer to those images of occupations that are both accessible (see accessibility of occupations) and compatible. Idealistic aspirations need only be compatible. More generally, some theorists refer to a career aspiration as a career or occupation that one hopes to hold in the future.
